CHRISTIAN LIVING
You Are What You Eat
By Pastor Mark Hartley
It's that time of year again for New Year's resolutions which involve eating. We are a culture extremely conscious of our physical appearance to the neglect of our spiritual appearance. The Church's desire to look like the world physically has bled over to our spiritual condition.
Most of us do not forget to eat a meal. Why? Our stomach kicks into gear grumbling low at first followed by loud rumbles which lets everyone within a 10 feet radius know. "This person needs food."
However, how well do we do eating spiritually? It is not that we forget to eat spiritually, but we are too busy. Our 'spiritual' stomach is no different from the physical when it comes to notification of emptiness. We begin to speak and act like the world instead of Christ Jesus. He calls us to be different from the world because He lives in us. The problem is not that Christ has lost His power to change us, but that we continually eat from the world.
Jesus during His temptation in the wilderness by Satan in Matthew 4 told Satan "Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that proceeds from the mouth of God." May we be found eating the Word of God daily and becoming what we eat in the coming year.
Living for His Glory,
Pastor Mark
